Podcasts!
Every month, I will post an approximately 30 minute podcast that covers a single topic in blood banking/transfusion medicine. The podcasts will be available on or before the 15th of each month, and they will cover a wide variety of topics. As the months go by, I will cover the majority of the essentials of blood banking 30 minutes at a time, so that you can learn what you need to know in small "bites!"
There are several options for seeing and/or hearing the podcasts, as follows:
- Video Version
The video version of the Blood Bank Guy podcast is much like attending a lecture. You will be able to see the presentation while you hear it, with live slides synchronized to the sound. Those of you that are visual learners will like this format. You can watch the podcast here on the site, download it to your own computer, or subscribe in iTunes so that it downloads to your computer (and our iPod, if you want) automatically. - Audio Version
Sometimes, listening to a lecture is just better when you can take it along with you. The audio version of the Blood Bank Guy podcast is designed for those of you that are "on-the-go." The content of the audio podcast is essentially identical to that of the video podcast; you just won't be able to see visual illustrations, obviously. Again, you can stream it, download it, subscribe to it, or whatever. - Handouts
Every podcast comes with a handout that you can download, print, and keep for reference (or use to start a fire if it really sucks!).
New Quizzes
Every month, when the Blood Bank Guy podcast is published, I will add a new quiz to the Blood Bank Guy quiz page, covering the same topic as the podcast. This will give you a chance to test your knowledge either before or after you listen to the podcast, and solidify the concepts covered in the podcast.
Glossary
I am working on a blood banking/transfusion medicine glossary that will eventually cover a huge number of definitions of terms and concepts that are essential in blood banking. Every month, I will add more terms and definitions to the list (until I get sick of it or feel like I've got nothing left to define!), sometimes corresponding with the topics covered in the monthly podcast. In many areas of the site, I have linked specific words, phrases, and concepts to their discussion in the glossary, and more of these will follow as I keep working on it.
More Topic Discussions
Topic discussions are difficult, because, quite honestly, I'd rather tell you about something using the podcast than make you have to read in on a static page. However, I am working on some new topic discussions that I think you will like. Keep checking back for these.
